ABOUT ANNABEL ELKINGTON, BA (HONS) PGCE MISM

Born in Wiltshire and brought up in Dubai, UAE, I picked up a recorder at the age of 6, which quickly led to my passion of playing the flute and the saxophone and grew a love for performing classical music both solo and with various ensembles, including orchestras. 


I am a former Leeds Conservatoire student where I received BA (Hons) Classical Music in 2018 with (principal study flute and second study saxophone). During my time at the conservatoire, I was fortunate enough to have performed at various venues across Yorkshire during this time. 


Whilst at Leeds Conservatoire, I joined Leeds University’s Community Music Society where I took part in a variety of community music projects, including performing for Dementia Patients at local care homes and teaching music at local primary schools. I also served some individual tuition on flute and piano during my time studying in Leeds. This is when she decided that she considered musical tuition.

With a PGCE with QTS in Secondary Music at the University of Cumbria. I am now back in Wiltshire, currently teaching woodwind and piano in schools across Swindon and Wiltshire. I also work with music hubs such as Swindon Music Cooperative, Devizes Music Academy and Wiltshire Young Musicians.

WHY LEARN WITH ANNABEL?

  • During the COVID-19 Pandemic, I worked as a secondary music teacher and therefore have experience in leading curriculum music, extra curricular activities and other projects. 

  • I am DBS checked and up to date with my safeguarding training. 

  • I offer different types of lesson packs that suit every ability. 

  • I regularly attend CPD and other training workshops relevant to my teaching practice to always develop my teaching skills.

  • I motivate students to undergo music exams and competitions and currently have 100% pupil pass rate.

  • I also accompany some of my pupils on piano when they do complete a music exam.

  • I am a member of both MU and ISM.

  • I currently perform solo and in other local ensembles to continue developing my performance skills.

  • First Aid Trained and Mental Health First Aid Trained
